Mike is Head of Capital Projects for GSK, directing the execution of major projects through 4 regional teams across the globe and the functional leader for project management ways of working across the company.

Prior to joining GSK, Mike was Head of Global Engineering & Projects for AstraZeneca and, together with being the Functional Leader for Asset Delivery throughout the company, and managing the Major Projects teams based in the UK, Sweden and China, delivering the AstraZeneca major capital portfolio of around $1B.

Joining the heavy Chemicals part of ICI in 1986 where he worked in cut-and-carve chemical plant projects and site construction, Mike moved to Pharmaceuticals in 1990, where he had a number of different Engineering roles in Clean Room Design, Construction and Project Management in the UK, Europe and Puerto Rico. Leaving Engineering in 1996, he established the new Engineering Purchasing function for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, before going on to become Global Head of Engineering Purchasing for AstraZeneca, managing the supplier & procurement strategy across all investments on AstraZeneca’s 40 sites.
In January 2006, he was appointed Director Biopharmaceuticals, responsible for the development of an investment strategy to meet the growing needs of AstraZeneca’s large molecule portfolio. During this time, he was responsible for the acquisition of development sites and the investment strategy for new Bulk & Fill/Finish assets in Ireland & Singapore.
Following the acquisition of MedImmune and separation of the Large and Small molecule businesses, he returned to the Pharma side of the business, where he was responsible for the reorganization of Engineering & Investment Delivery across the company into one global organization. Now Head of Global Engineering & Projects, he is the Functional Leader for all Asset Investment delivery and manages the discipline engineering and major projects teams based in UK, Sweden and China. Through these teams he is accountable for the delivery of new assets in Wuxi, Shanghai and other sites in China, together with Jakarta, Bangalore, Moscow and Algiers.
Mike is a graduate of Strathclyde University’s Civil Engineering M.Eng programme, a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology, together with being a full member of the Association for Project Management.
